Our Story
Comms for a Cause: A Response to Authoritarian Narrative Warfare and Structural Invisibility
We are living in a time when the power of communications has never been more weaponized, or crucial to resistance.
Across the globe, authoritarian regimes understand something many movements have been forced to overlook: communications is power. Strategic communications is no longer an add on. It is the primary infrastructure through which undemocratic governments and institutions build dominance, manufacture legitimacy, spread disinformation, and suppress dissent.
In many countries around the world governments deploy highly coordinated comms strategies to create mythologies of control, smear activists, and neutralize opposition. At the same time, activists and grassroots movements are being cut off from the very tools they need to speak, organize, and be heard through internet shutdowns, social media censorship, algorithmic suppression, and legal crackdowns.
And it is not a coincidence that most major visibility platforms are owned by billionaires aligned with authoritarian institutions and powers. Their mutual gain is clear: the amplification of far-right ideology and capitalist surveillance in exchange for narrative control and cultural dominance. This results in a global digital ecosystem that prioritizes profit and control over truth and justice, making it nearly impossible for frontline movements to survive, let alone thrive.
Yet despite this reality, communications and digital security remain severely underfunded, overlooked, and deprioritized in philanthropy and progressive movement ecosystems. Comms is often treated as branding. Tech is treated as a luxury. Safety is treated as individual responsibility. And movements are collapsing as a result.
C4AC exists to change that.
Vision
We envision a world where grassroots movements, especially those led by queer, trans, Dalit, disabled, Indigenous, and feminist communities, have the tools, safety, and power to shape a just, equitable, and sustainable future.
We believe that strengthened movements strengthen movements. Every campaign, every action, every collective led by marginalized people is already contributing to a world free from violence, exploitation, discrimination, and climate catastrophe. But to do this work with power, safety, and assurance, movements need infrastructure that protects as much as it uplifts.
At Comms for a Cause, we imagine a future where movements can speak to donors, influence policy makers, confront anti-rights forces, organize across borders, and mobilize their communities without compromising their safety or values.A future where visibility does not come at the cost of protection
We are building toward deep-rooted, unapologetically political movements are secure, resourced, and able to thrive on their own terms. Movements where every strategy includes care, every plan includes protection, and every voice, no matter how marginalized, can be heard without fear.
Mission
Comms for a Cause builds infrastructure for movement safety, storytelling, and sustainability through a model we call Feminist, Holistic, and Radical Resource Redistribution (FHR3). Our mission is to redistribute not just funds, but strategic, technical, and emotional resources, meeting grassroots organizations where they are and walking alongside them as they implement bold, values-aligned visions.
We focus on two of the most underfunded yet essential pillars of movement work:
- Storytelling led communications, to mobilize resources, shift discourse, and build alliances;
- Digital security based tech infrastructure, to survive censorship, navigate risk, and sustain organizing without burnout or fear.
Through trauma-informed, strategic, creative, and justice tech–rooted accompaniment,we work alongside queer, trans, disabled, Dalit, neurodivergent, and feminist-led groups to build the communications and safety infrastructure they need to thrive and resist repression, violence, and authoritarianism.
