Strengthened Movements Strengthen Movements
When one movement grows stronger, it creates the conditions for others to thrive — strength, after all, is collective.
How Participatory Nomination Works
Every year, Comms for a Cause (C4AC) opens a closed call for cohort selection in September. Rather than open applications, C4AC uses a participatory nomination process, rooted in trust, care, and long-term feminist relationships
Through our partnerships with feminist funds, networks, and allies, we reach out to organizations that we already know, or that are referred by partners who share our values. This approach minimizes extractive application processes and ensures safety for organizations working under digital or political risk.
We prioritize organizations that:
- Are led by queer, trans, Dalit, disabled, Indigenous, and/or neurodivergent people;
- Work at the intersection of intersectional feminist justice, technology, and advocacy;
- Face narrative suppression, censorship, or digital insecurity; and
- Are eager to invest their time and energy into co-creating systems that protect and sustain their work.
What Accompaniment Looks Like
Accompaniment is the heart of C4AC’s model. It’s a year-long co-creation process where strategy, technology, and care meet.
Each cohort moves through four intentional phases:
- Foundation & Co-Design (Nov–Dec): Building trust, mapping needs, and creating individualized roadmaps for communications, tech, and digital security.
- Implementation & Accompaniment (Jan–May): Hands-on collaboration to design campaigns, microsites, and security infrastructure, supported through weekly one-on-one sessions and collective workshops.
- Visibility & Global Connection (Jun–Aug): Launching campaigns and participating in global platforms and convenings such as RightsCon, with safety and accessibility protocols woven into every step.
- Reflection & Learning (Sep): A care-centered close, focusing on documentation, evaluation, and story-based learning.
How to Connect
C4AC’s cohort selection process begins every September, with accompaniment cycles launching in November. If your organization is part of a feminist, queer, or rights-based network aligned with our values, you may receive an invitation or nomination through one of our trusted partners.
To learn more about future cohorts or explore whether accompaniment would be a good fit for your organization, reach out to team@commsforacause.org.
We don’t begin with forms or deadlines—we begin with a conversation. Because every movement deserves to be visible without being vulnerable.
